Raintown is the debut album of Scottish pop band Deacon Blue. The
album, written largely by lead singer Ricky Ross, was released in
the United Kingdom on May 1, 1987. It proved a commercial success
and has to date sold around a million copies, peaking in the UK
album chart at 14 and remaining in the charts for a year and a
half. The album, widely praised as Deacon Blue's finest work, has
the overtones of a concept album relating to the struggles of
getting by in life in the inner city of urban life - the city being
unmistakably Glasgow...
The News As Usual showcases the work of a gifted poet who employs
language at its richest. Yenser captures lyrics and blues, ballads
and villanelles, and even a crown of sonnets. Sonically rich and
filled with detail, these poems link mortality with fishing, nature
with protoplasm-constantly finding ways to explore the inner and
outer worlds in ways at once understated and wise.
Walking Uphill at Noon showcases Yenser's mastery of prosody and
love of play. Including free verse as well as established and newly
invented forms, Yenser's collection is organized into four parts
that each explore the author's life and interests: part 1 focuses
on neighborhood observations; part 2 delves into travel at home and
abroad; part 3 consists of a "walking log" that muses on current
events; and part 4 explores magic, mysteries, and sleights of hand.
Ultimately, Yenser urges readers to consider that everyday
situations can be made extraordinary if they keep their love of
play and wonder close to their hearts.
